Description

Acetone is a colorless, liquid, volatile substance. It is mostly used for dissolving and diluting paints, varnishes and some other building materials. Acetone mixes easily with water, alcohol and other solvents, it is hygroscopic - it absorbs liquids well.

Uses of acetone:

Thinning and dissolving: The most popular thinner for oil paints is acetone. It is used to dilute an excessively thick mass of oil paint to the required fluidity. During work, it is important to ventilate the room well, because acetone has a specific smell, and its vapors are harmful to humans.

Cleaning and stain removal:

  • Acetone cleans construction dirt and stains left by liquid or viscous construction materials.
  • Oil paint, varnish and nitro paint stains are removed from clothes and other items.
  • It is possible to remove residues of silicone glue and superglue made of cyanoacrylate from fabrics.
  • Residues of mounting polyurethane foam can be removed from metal tools and clothing.
  • Acetone dissolves epoxy resin, natural resins, wax, polystyrene, nitrocellulose, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), alkaloids, salts well.

Degreasing: Another important property of acetone is degreasing of working surfaces. It dissolves well and removes even strong hardened fats. Before varnishing or painting metal surfaces, they should be cleaned with a cloth moistened with acetone.

Important! Safety must be observed when working with acetone. The room where acetone is kept should be well ventilated, use rubber gloves, a respirator and plastic glasses. During the process, observe whether there is any change in how you feel.
