Description

Turpentine is a mixture of cyclic hydrocarbons (terpenoids) obtained from sap. Colorless or yellowish liquid with a pine smell. Well soluble in non-polar organic solvents, diethyl ether, acetone, absolute ethanol, insoluble in water. Dissolves fats, resins, oil.

Areas of use:

As a thinner for varnishes, paints and enamels
To synthesize camphor
To obtain fragrances, insecticides, flotation oil, terpineol, terpinehydrate
Mainly used as a specialized solvent
